1475: Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo was raised in Castile, Spain
1502: Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo heard the stories about the New World joined the expedition to the West Indies led by Nicolas de Ovando with Diego Velazquez. The Ovando voyage consisted of 2500 soldiers, settlers in a fleet of 30 ships
1519: Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo is documented as serving under the command of Hernando Cortes
Whilst serving Hernando Cortes he accompanied him on his exploration of Mexico and the conquest of the Aztec Empire. Cabrillo fought as a captain of crossbowmen. Hernando Cortes conquered 5 Million Aztecs with less than 1000 soldiers
Cabrillo joined other Spanish military expeditions in Mexico, Guatemala, and San Salvador
Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo settled in Guatemala after being rewarded with a grant of land
